Technical description
The shed roof of this former factory will be renovated according to the current standards of energy comfort. The saw-tooth roof has a steep section that will be made of glass and a slightly sloping section that will be closed off with insulated sandwich panels. The construction is made on the existing ring beams and rafters. Additional trusses will be placed to ensure stability. Purlins are placed on top to support the ridge and the gutters. From the ridge to the gutter, the steep side is equipped with a canopy made of Reynaers aluminium profiles. This side catches the daylight and also has automatically controlled windows for ventilation. Two gables under the roofs are double-glazed curtain walls allowing access from the house to the garden or the street. A third single glass facade divides the space of the house.
Context
The client saved this former candy factory from demolition. The client, who is also an architect, will convert this building into a single-family home. It is a typical 20th century factory building with a saw-tooth roof. The surrounding walls are in brick and the interior structure is made of steel columns. The shed roof is restored to current energy standards for thermal insulation and wind and water tightness.
