Description

In Ruiselede, an ambitious healthcare house is being transformed into a care village. At the initiative of Curando, the existing site is being redeveloped into an open meeting place where housing, care, education, sports, and community life come together. The project responds to the evolving care needs of older adults and people requiring support, with a strong focus on sustainability, accessibility, and quality of life.

As part of this ambitious project, Forzon, on behalf of main contractor Vandenbussche, is constructing the orangery that will connect the various buildings across the site.

Greenhouse serving as main entrance for the care village 

A beautiful covered gallery made of glass, steel, and aluminium, the orangery serves as both the literal and symbolic link between the various buildings on the site: the newly constructed residential care centre, Curando’s existing offices, the chapel, the monastery, and the garden.

At the same time, it creates an inviting, sheltered outdoor space where residents can relax, meet one another, and enjoy natural daylight and the surrounding greenery throughout the year, regardless of the season.

Customized glass and steel

For this project, we are constructing a widespan greenhouse of 240 m².

  • Its generous spans create an open and transparent space that perfectly complements the architectural vision of the care village.
  • The roof will be fitted with laminated glass featuring high light transmission, allowing abundant natural daylight to enter the space.
  • The side façades will be made of toughened glass, ensuring maximum transparency and providing an enjoyable connection with the surrounding environment.

This project demonstrates how a greenhouse can play a central role in architecture.
