Description

Technical description

The double inclined skylights were placed floating on the roof construction, creating natural ventilation under the skylights. The ventilation was provided with the necessary protection against water infiltration but also against the risk of birds flying in. For maintenance purposes, rails were mounted over the entire length of the skylights, over which a controllable maintenance bridge rolls.

Context

The tram museum in Berchem got a completely new roof that was equipped with about 1600m_ of double inclined skylights, divided over 3 skylights. The underlying exhibited trams bathed again in a sea of natural light. The completely new skylight was mounted on the existing authentic steel structure, which creates a beautiful interplay of lines through the incidence of light.
