Opening Edenya at Pairi Daiza

Constructing with impact - world's largest tropical greenhouse

Years of preparation, technical expertise, and teamwork come together in the newly opened world

EDENYA at Pairi Daiza.

For Deforche Construction Group, this marks the culmination of a project that was the focus of intensive work for a long time. For many years, this project shaped the daily work of countless colleagues, from early morning until late in the evening.

Today, we look at a magnificent golden-hued tropical greenhouse: an oasis of nature and tranquility. Many of us look back with satisfaction, but above all with great pride in the journey we have undertaken. What stands here today is an impressive achievement. But, as is often said, not everything that glitters is (immediately) gold.

Just like Rome, Edenya was not built in a day. Our story begins at the drawing table, during the first brainstorming sessions. It then developed through complex structural calculations, assessments of economic feasibility, budget discussions, and building regulations that sometimes sent the plans back to the drawing board. The construction itself took three and a half years, not counting the many years of preparation.

This project spanned all seasons. Construction took place in mud and rain, and work continued under a scorching summer sun. Building means solving problems every single day. Even small obstacles can grow into serious challenges on a large construction site. Human resilience is constantly tested by stress, responsibility, and tight deadlines.

With these words, we especially want to express our gratitude and deep respect to everyone who, despite setbacks, repeatedly found the courage and strength to keep working together on this project. From design and engineering, to production, to the on-site installers with helmets and work boots: our respect for everyone who contributed is boundless. Each with their own role, expertise, and experience, we have together realized the largest tropical greenhouse in the world!

For everyone—men and women—who contributed to Edenya, this project leaves a lasting mark.

Every anecdote and every memory gives way to pride.

Those who choose a career in construction often do so driven by the desire to see things come to life. From idea to plan, from design to material choices, and ultimately to a grand result on the construction site. A human life is temporary, but a building that outlasts a lifetime carries a sense of continuity. It becomes a legacy: a tangible imprint for future generations—perhaps the very essence of what we call civilization.

Edenya is built from steel, aluminium, and glass: high-quality, durable, and recyclable materials. The greenhouse was designed according to circular principles. Thanks to its modular structure, construction could be lighter and more efficient. Deforche Construction Group builds with multiple generations in mind. The thoughtful design ensures optimal use of materials, while ventilation, water recovery, and energy management keep consumption to a minimum. Nature-inclusive construction is deeply embedded in the DNA of our group.

Edenya is a microcosm that, born from the dream of Eric Domb, the park’s founder, showcases the beauty of our planet with its fauna and flora. It is a place that aims to be accessible to everyone, a window onto the valuable biodiversity of our Earth. At the same time, it offers an educational journey through the challenges we face in preserving that biodiversity.

Choosing the construction sector is choosing to make tangible dreams a reality.

Some projects demand a lot from a person—especially when they are large, complex, and span several years. But the satisfaction of the final result, not only physically but also in symbolism and meaning, makes them exceptional.

It is these kinds of missions that make people get up every morning with conviction and start their workday with enthusiasm.
